Is it weird that I totally forgot I had this web site until listening to my friends over at the Nerdcore Meow podcast just now? Thanks for the reminder, fellas.
If anyone can see this, they mentioned The vocalist/producer contest I'm currently participating in. I, the vocalist, was partnered up with renowned artist/producer, Benjamin Bear. Unfortunately our team was disqualified from the first round because of some terrible luck. I'll explain here for anyone who hasn't been following the excitement.
The way it all unraveled was pretty silly. Essentially, BBear sent me an instrumental. I wrote/recorded a rough draft of the song. Then, with a strange twist of fate, I became rather ill before my chance to get some more takes in. I held onto the track as long as I could hoping I'd recover enough get a hit song, but never got the opportunity.
I knew I had to get something submitted lest I would be the laughing stock of the nerd community (Which in retrospect doesn't seem too bad). I sent the track to BBear to have him mix the track per the rules of the competition when he realized he sent me the wrong instrumental!
Because I was sick there was no time to rectify this problem. Because the beat was not original for this competition we lost all our points from round 1.
Round two is going down.

Now, here's the really weird thing about this whole topic: The song I submitted for this contest was basically about a character who had died and decided to attempt to come back to life. In order to accomplish this he needed to defeat the grim reaper in a rap battle. This story was metaphorically about how I hadn't made any new music such a long time; I was musically dead. Defeating the grim reaper in the song allowed me to begin making new music. And it was the conversation about said song on the podcast that reminded me about this web page. So either I'm tired, or things are starting to make sense.

Nope. Just tired.

Q: Who would you pick to collaborate with if you could work with any artist in the industry?

A: Its funny you ask. I find myself thinking about this question pretty often and I've got to say that there's a pretty huge list of artists out there I'd kill to work with. Some of them make more sense to me than others.

To get Matisyahu to lay down a hook for me would be amazing. He's just so talented and he has done so much for fighting stereotypes- which is a mission of mine.

Getting together with the diabolical Biz Markie would be a dream come true. I think Biz and I both pride ourselves on keeping our songs fun and entertaining.

Of course there's one triple feature that might change the world. Imagine a joint with Red/Meth/Pov. Whoa!

"Rap Cliche" reviewed by Cool & Dre

Producers Cool & Dre (who have worked with everyone in the industry; from Chris Brown and lil' Wayne to Ghost Face and Fat Joe) recently got their hands on PovertyMan's song, "Rap Cliche" and had tons of great things to say about it.

When asked about the vibe of the song they said, "First thing we noticed was the sample and old school hip hop vintage sound you got going. It sounds cool."

As high is "sounding cool" is on my list of priorities, I am always more interested in hearing what people say about my lyrical content. Cool and Dre said, "The topic you decided to rap about really differs from the normal rap song. We love how you used clever lyrics to take the listener to another place."

Upcoming projects!

Always trying to keep busy. But I've got some pretty exciting new projects I'm working on!

First, there's the Snoop Dogg remix contest. I dropped 16 bars for the Dogfather, so make sure you check out verse 2 of my submission to hear my contribution.

Still collecting photo submissions from anyone trying to get into the "PovertyMania" music video. If you want to get in it and still aren't sure how make sure you hit me up!

Word of another Sinister Sev/PovertyMan collaboration is buzzing around.

There's even a possibility that I'll get to do a song with with the hardest grinding man in VA, J'sar.

The underground is a strange place to find oneself. Its filled with confused identities, hacks, clowns, wannabes, and, when you know just where to look, there's so much mind-blowing talent.

I feel bad for anyone who doesn't have access to what's going on in that community. The variety of music is just so vast and impressive. It truly puts the radio to shame.

I always have trouble trying to categorize my own music. With any luck, I'll be able to represent the underground for a while.

Its been a couple days since my on-stage-debut. Finally, the high I felt in front of about 200 people is wearing off and I'm ready to share my experience with the world. You might be asking, "How was it?" I can only sum it up with one word: Awesome.

My dude, Sinister Sev, lit a fire under the crowd with his tongue twisting rhymes. He brought his A game and it really boosted the entire show to the next level. (Make sure to check out his youtube channel to view his entire set)

I want to give a special Thanks to Sev for letting me be part of his act. We closed the set hard with the fan favorite "Happy Guy". My only regret is not moving around more during my performance, but it gets a little difficult when the stage is covered with miles of cables and towering mic stands.

Much love and respect to the other acts who performed. Such a successful night can only be contributed to great artists and fans. See you next time!

During her interview on Hip Talk Radio, Kari Ann Peniche (Star of VH1's Sex Rehab) announced that she wanted a song written for her. Since writing songs is what I do, I quickly formulated a game plan. I knew it would take more than roofies and morning after pills to get the job done.

So I started studying her: Waiting outside her apartment; Following her to and from appointments; Going through her garbage cans.

I took all the data I collected and entered it into a computer. The results were astounding. It created the song she always wanted, "Supposed to Breath".

Stop asking me for merchandise I don't have. Despite my best efforts there is no PovertyMan action figure (with cup-for-collecting-change accessory), there is no delicious PovertyMan breakfast cereal in either regular or honey nut flavors, and there is no PovertyMan flame thrower (the kids would've loved it). Perhaps the saddest thing is that there is not yet a PovertyMan album.

In an attempt to appease the masses I created an online store at Reverbnation. Currently available at the store is the "PovertyMania" T-shirt in both mens and womens sizes ($15), and the "Mr. Right" ringtone ($2.49). Expect to see more items pop up as they become available. Its been a long time coming since Jon, a Hip Talk founder and host, first mentioned the idea of creating a collaboration piece of the various guests of the show. I fell in love with the idea instantly: working with other artists is one of my favorite things about this music industry. Think for a second about all the great rap collabs and how sometimes the right combination of artists can create an instant classic (ie. Rae and Ghost, Red and Meth, Snoop and Dre, Me and William Hung). Well this Hip Talk Radio joint is finally finished and, in my opinion, worth the wait. I think we may have found one of those legendary combination of artists here.

Still trying to figure out how to get everything set just how I need it. I had to remove the link to my youtube page... Luckily the only video I have on there was a random clip from "Noby noby boy", perhaps the most bizarre game on the PS3.
